Pollard and Starc fined for ugly scenes

Mumbai:Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc have been fined for their behavior offences during the Mumbai Indians-Royal Challengers Bangalore tie at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, the Indian Premier League said in a statement on Wednesday evening. A big altercation broke out between the two - towards the end of MI's innings - and both players almost came to blows.

The ugly scenes unfolded in the 17th over when Starc used some pretty choice language against Pollard after beating him with a bouncer. The West Indian disdainfully signed to Starc to go away, and off the next ball backed away from the crease at the last minute. Starc instead of stopping himself followed the West Indian on the legside and almost hit him, leaving a seething Pollard to throw his bat towards the bowler in a menacing way.

Both Pollard and Starc have admitted to the level 2 offence (2.2.11) of conduct contrary to the spirit of the game and accepted the sanction of a fine of 75 and 50 per cent of their match fee respectively.

MI captain Rohit Sharma and RCB captain Virat Kohli have also been fined for allowing a slow over rate. Since it was Rohit's second offence this season, he has been fined Rs 24 lakh, while each member of the MI eleven incurred a fine of 25 per cent of their match fee. It was Kohli's first offence so he has been slapped a fine of Rs 12 lakh.

RCB medium pacer Varon Aaron also violated article 2.1.1 of the Code of Conduct for a breach of paragraph 4.2 of the IPL Clothing Regulations, for which he got reprimanded.
